Chris Schmenk is a Marysville native and a longtime resident of our City. The daughter of Dave and Liz Ward, she credits her parents with instilling strong values and a heart for public service.

Chris attended Marysville schools, graduating in 1977. She then attended Ohio Northern University, obtaining a Bachelors of Arts degree in History and Political Science. After earning her Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University College of Law, she practiced business and employment law from 1984-1989 for Wendy’s International, Inc. Chris was in private practice from 1989-1993 with the Columbus firms of Denmead, Blackburn and Willard, as well as Buckley, King and Bluso, specializing in business, bankruptcy and employment law.

In 1993, Chris joined The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, where she is currently the Director of Government and Community Affairs. In this role, she is serving as Scotts’ liaison to elected government officials at the federal, state and local levels. Additionally, Chris is working with Scotts’ Environmental Stewardship team on corporate social responsibility initiatives. Chris also leads Scotts Miracle-Gro’s Community Affairs programs and oversees Scotts’ philanthropic endeavors. This role allows Chris to be active in the community that she loves while she is guiding Scotts to participate in numerous community endeavors.

Chris has a heart for public service and has served in many volunteer positions locally. These include being on the board of the Union County Family YMCA and the Marysville Public Library. Chris’s second term as President of the Board of the Union County Chamber of Commerce just ended and she currently serves on the boards of Memorial Hospital of Union County and Columbus Sister Cities International.

Chris and her husband Mike were married in 1981 and have two school aged children. The Schmenk family are Marysville City residents and the owners of a small business in town. They are active members of the Vineyard Church of Marysville. In their spare time, the family enjoys snow skiing, bicycling and running, and they are strong supporters of the Marysville parks.
